The Mines of Uoriol

Hackmaster
The Kingdoms of Kalamar
Adventure!
Provided with a map, a pre-payment, and an objective of gathering evidence,
our haphazard adventurers took to the road. While journeying to their objective, they happened upon a young Brandobian man name Beningren, affectionately referred to as “meat ladder”. After observing him defending himself from some local monstrous insects, our adventurers accepted his offer of aid. Ben was a follower of The Traveler, and could provide some Clerical assistance if the need arose.
Finally happening upon the main site of Robmus’ operation, the group
managed to convince a guardsman named Torbus to betray his contract with
Robmus, and help them obtain the evidence they need. All Torbus asked for was a guarantee that he would be safe, and that his departure from this “hell hole” would be payed for. Promises are cheap, and are something Garyn and Grug have in spades.
So, with the help of Beningren, Torbus, and some gullible guardsmen, Garyn
and Grug were able to oust Robmus, and bring him to justice for his illegal mining operations. Beningren went on his way, continuing to journey across Tellene; following the tenets of The Traveler means seeking wisdom and aiding those who are in need. Not much is known about Torbus. After returning to town, Grug and Garyn shared a small percentage of their gains with him, and he disappeared.
Some weeks later, Mayor Nerweck had gotten back reports that the mines
that had formerly been Robmus’, were now taken over by a local band of goblins. This was very disconcerting, as goblins tended to precede larger threats. With the region’s history of skirmishes and territory disputes between giant kind and the local Dwarvish and Gnomish denizens, Nerweck was not willing to take the risk. A larger scale conflict would spell doom for their small town.
With this in mind, Nerweck called once again upon Garyn and Grug for assistance. He also hired a pair of able-bodied adventurers named Sebastian and Tharim. Sebastian was Kalamaran human, and familiar with a bow. Tharim was a Dwarven clergyman from Reanarria Bay who’d dedicated his life to The Liberator. After much debate about pay, the four of them set off to the mines once more in order to root out the goblinoid threat.
After dealing with some local monstrous insects, the group delved in to the first of many caves, where they indeed encountered goblins. Amongst the goblins was a Hobgoblin, who seemed to be leading them in some fashion. It seemed the Mayor’s intuitions about goblins leading to larger threats were correct. Battle between the group and the resident goblinoids was fierce and fast, however our adventurers ended up the victors.
A final cave led them to a group of Troglodytes that lived in a cavernous system below the mines. Here they discovered a shaman that, by all accounts, seemed to worship The Rotting One. It was here that Sebastian met his untimely demise. The Troglodyte shaman managed to jump out at Sebastian and catch him off guard, plunging a luminescent stone in to his neck. The stone, charged with the magicks of rot, turned Sebastian in to a festering Ghast, who then attacked our adventurers.
Having felled the Ghast and former comrade, the three remaining adventurers made their way back to town in order to collect their payment, and be done with these damned mines.
