Epilogue

Weeks passed while the town’s Mayor got a handle on the mines with his conscripted guards. He was lauded and praised as the man who’d kept the looming threats to their quiet town at bay. In reality, Nerweck had emptied much of the town’s coffers to the adventuring party he’d hired to take care of these problems covertly. Most of the problems the town was facing were due to Nerweck’s tight control of the mining companies, and oppressive taxes on the denizens. The rise of someone like Robmus was inevitable, and Nerweck knew it. If the townsfolk knew Nerweck had spent their taxes to save face, he would surely be ousted as Governer.

As it turns out, no one yet has found out about Nerweck’s steep expenditure, and the townsfolk are all the more convinced that their Mayor truly has their best interests at heart; even if taxes are a bit too high. As far as Mayor Nerweck is concerned, he’s avoided the questions and concerns of a populous that believes him to be wise and cunning. This is all the better, as it would allow him to press the mining companies for more money, and the denizens for more taxes.

Tharim continues to seek out those who have been oppressed or enslaved. He was drawn to this town because of its prominence for mining, expecting there to be a market of slave miners for hire. Now that he feels as though he has “liberated” the town of oppression, he has moved south to the port city Saaniema. Here he hopes to find and fight against any and all forms of slavery and oppression. He will have his hands full.

Garyn and Grug spent the next few months simply enjoying the fruits of their labor. This was a life worthy of Garyn and Grug! There was much gambling and drinking to be had as they stayed out of the public spot light, just as the Mayor had requested. It wouldn’t be until their pockets began to feel a bit too empty that they would take up their swords again.

This time was different though. This time they had a lead on a valuable item that had just recently been unearthed.
